Fraunhofer Insititute for Integrated Circuits which licenses it and owns the patent for the MP3 audio format has just announced that it will be longer support the format. Well, now you all must be wondering the potential reason behind it?
The Creator believes that there are better ways to save music now. Those formats will be helped by the retirement of MP3 audio format. Here’s what Fraunhofer Institute’s official statement said:
On April 23, 2017, Technicolor’s mp3 licensing application for Fraunhofer IIS has been terminated and software of Technicolor and certain mp3 associated patents.”
The institute says that nowadays well-known streaming, TV, or radio service providers are using ISO-MPEG codecs or MPEG-H. Thus, is this the ending of MP3? Well, as they don’t need a license, people will continue to make use of MP3.
