Google is well known for it’s confectionery based operating system naming convention, Android OREO follows a similar path to Google’s previously branded OS name, KitKat.
Since 2009’s Android Cupcake release, Google has stuck with its confectionary based naming convention for it’s Android operating system and in 2013 Google announced their first Android promotional partnership with Nestlé to release Android 4.4 KitKat.
This year Google has announced a promotional partnership with Mondelez, the company behind the OREO brand name to release the eighth version of Android mobile OS, Android OREO.
Justin Parnell, Global Brand Director for OREO was quoted saying “With OREO, we’re on a mission to bring people together through fun, playful moments. So infusing the playfulness of OREO with the openness of Android is the perfect match,” – Mondelez
No financial details of the partnership have been released but this does not come as a surprise as no financial details were released during the Android KitKat partnership either.
Android OREO had it’s first public release on August 21st 2017 but it’s not expected to be widely available until Google announce their next flagship device, the Pixel 2 later this year.
Google followed it’s tradition of revealing a new statue on it’s front lawn to coincide with the Android release, it was filmed and uploaded to YouTubebbut can be seen below:
