Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok is just around the corner and what better way to show off just how much you love the Norse God than with Thor’s Hammer Model Kit from Metal Earth.
I’m quite new to the Marvel Universe, I must admit I have not read any of the original comics. The movies are where I started to show an interest and for me, it started with IronMan back in 2008. I’ve since become a huge fan who attends every opening night screening and like all true Marvel fans, I do wait for the very last end credit scene to finish before leaving the cinema. Oh yeah, screw you Spiderman Homecoming. That end credit scene was not OK.
Thor is one of my favourite characters, not only because Chris Hemsworth is a perfect actor for the role but because Thor is a powerful God who wields a magical land extremely powerful hammer named Mjolnir, He’s brave he’s worthy and he has an interesting back story, imagine how cool it would be to wield that hammer and possess the power of Thor!
Back to reality, while it’s not possible to possess the power of Thor. It is possible to own some rather cool Marvel collectables and I’ve found one which in my opinion is brilliant. While scrolling through the gadget section of Amazon last week I came across a model of Thor’s hammer made by Metal Earth, a company which produces collectable statues from sheets of metal. I’m so impressed by this model so I’ve written a small review.
The price when I purchased was a few pence over £10 and for that price, I’d certainly say it’s worth buying. It’s only 2 sheets of metal but the finished model looks fantastic.
There is not a lot to say here, the model kit comes with 2 sheets of metal which have cutouts for the various parts of the model. The metal is shiny and the cutouts show an impressive amount of detail.
I was surprised how easy it was to put the hammer together, it’s a case of having to push out the metal cutouts and fold along the various lines. I had the model built in an hour however it may take longer for someone with larger hands. some parts of the hammer are quite small and fiddly.
Once assembled (excuse the pun), this model of Thor’s hammer looks great. The level of detail down to the intricate cracks in the rock or the wrap on the handle of the hammer is impressive. The model is smaller than I would expect at 3.25″ x 3.25″ x 1.75″ however it does look great on my desk next to the rest of my collectables and I’ll look out for more of these in the future. It’s a great addition to your growing Marvel collection and a worthy purchase with Thor Ragnarok hitting cinemas in the next couple of months.
